About Becoming a Surrogate
Being a surrogate means giving the gift of family to those who need help. It is a role filled with compassion and dedication. The journey starts with understanding your desire to help and ends with the joy of seeing a family’s dream come true. Surrogates with Carrying Dreams receive support throughout the entire process.
How It Works
- Application
Submitting your application is the first step, including a minor pre-screening to confirm you meet the criteria. A consultation call follows to explain the details.
- Pre-Screen
Your OB/GYN will perform an initial assessment of your pregnancy and delivery history, vitals, and ensure your health for carrying a pregnancy.
- Medical Records Review
Our team retrieves your medical records and history reports to summarize and streamline the process for the RE clinic to best understand your history and verify you’re a qualified candidate.
- Agency Screening
All candidates (and their spouse if applicable) are required to complete a criminal background check and psychological evaluation preparing them for the immense journey they’re about to embark on.
- Insurance Verification
We review your medical insurance to determine if it covers prenatal care and delivery, noting that Medicaid or Tricare plans are not eligible. This verification also informs us if a policy needs to be purchased by the intended parents during the open enrollment period.
- Initial Intake
We review your preferences and match options to align expectations for both you and the intended parents throughout the journey.
- Matching
Review profiles of potential matches, meet them via video call to discuss journey expectations, and find the best match for your criteria.
- Specialist Medical Clearance
Visit a fertility specialist for medical screening, including physicals, urinalysis, drug screens, bloodwork, and ultrasounds, taking, on average, 10-14 days for clearance.
- Legal Phase 1
The gestational carrier agreement (GCA) is a detailed legal document outlining all aspects of the journey, providing protection and clarity for all parties.
- Embryo Transfer
After legal clearance, begin medications and preparations for the embryo transfer, following the fertility clinic’s specific protocols and guidelines.
- Monitoring
Post-transfer, continue monitoring with the fertility physician, including ultrasounds and bloodwork, until released to your OB/GYN for continued care.
- OB Prenatal Care
After confirmed pregnancy and initial monitoring, transition to your local OB/GYN for prenatal care and delivery, with specialist support if needed.
- Legal Phase 2
Between 15-18 weeks gestation, begin parental rights paperwork and birthing orders, confirming intended parents are legally recognized, and the hospital has necessary documents. (Note: each state parenting laws differ)
- Labor and Delivery
Coordinate with Carrying Dreams Surrogacy for a birth plan, handling all logistics, allowing you to focus on a safe and healthy delivery.
- Postpartum
Post-delivery, continue receiving support and resources from Carrying Dreams Surrogacy to facilitate a smooth recovery and transition back to your routine.
